CLMB Manager Duties

Cold Lake Minor Ball Manager Duties

Thank you for volunteering to be a team manager for Cold Lake Minor Ball. There are few duties in this role and your time commitment should be minimal, but some tasks are very important to keep the ball season running well.

First things first, I would like to mention a few things that you do NOT have to do, as this is a departure from most other leagues in the area:  You do not have to book games (other than rescheduled games), and you do not have to book umpires. This is done through the league.

The General Duties of the Team Manager are:

  • Communication
  • Jerseys
  • Submitting Scores
  • Managing other volunteer roles
  • Photo Day
  • Rescheduling of Rain Outs
  • Scheduling of exhibition games if wanted

You will have to familiarize yourself with both the coldlakeminorball.com and lmbl.ca websites. There is a lot of decent information on there, especially on the lmbl.ca website, as they are our governing body and book all the games. The league rules are on there, as are links to the Baseball Alberta rules as well as some manager guidelines for the LMBL.

  • There are two logins for RAMP websites that will be supplied to you - one for your team site on coldlakeminorball.com and one for the league site for game sheets for lmbl.ca
    • For Cold Lake Minor Ball - this is where you will log in to add games and practices (games may come over automatically from the league, but also may not). This can also be done through the app. The main reason you would want to enter the site from the computer is to add and change the coach/manager access to the RAMP app to allow others or coaches to add/edit games etc. Also it is easier to update jersey numbers this way.
    • For the LMBL - you will need to have accurate rosters, jersey numbers etc for the games, and this is also where you will report the game scores.

Because you are working with children from time to time, we ask that you obtain an CRC/VSC from the RCMP.  Please get this completed as soon as possible.  If you have one from other sports in the last 3 years, they are good. Just provide CLMB a copy.

Communication

As team manager your primary job will be to communicate with the parents of players on your team regarding game schedule, practices, volunteer assignments, rain outs etc. Your head coach or division coordinator will provide you with a full contact list for the players on your team.  You may choose to communicate via a regular email program or use Team Ramp app. CLMB has purchased licenses for all teams to use this app, and it is highly recommended that you do so.

The manager must also communicate with other teams to confirm diamond location and game. Contact information must be provided on the lmbl.ca website so it is available to all. The game locations are important to note, as they may not be accurate.

The manager will also have to ensure that the umpires are booked for the games. They do not have to book themselves, but especially at the start of the season, there may be need to check into the status of the umps.

Jerseys

The Manager will receive all the Jerseys for the team.  The manager will receive the checks / deposits from the parents and will hand back the deposits when the jerseys are returned. The manager will then return the jerseys to the equipment director in the days following the end of the season.

Submitting Scores

The manager must log into the lmbl.ca website within 24 hours of a home game to record the score of the game.  They will also log into the lmbl.ca website 24-48 after an away game to verify the score of the away game played.

Managing of other volunteer Roles

Scorekeeping

  • Ensure that for each game there is a scorekeeper
  • Teach other parents (who want to learn) how to keep score (here is a great video to teach parents how to scorekeep)
  • During gameplay, the home team is the “official” scorekeeper and must ensure the score sheet is correct
  • It is recommended that the team which is visiting also keep score

Pitch Count (only when required)

  • Ensure that for each game there is a pitch-counter
  • Teach other parents (who want to learn) how to pitch count. Please see baseball alberta and baseball Canada for information on this.
  • During gameplay, the visiting team is the “official” pitch counter
  • It is recommended that the team who is home also keep count pitches in order to verify

Photo Day

  • The league no longer has a large photo day, but this may happen in the future. Until such time, it is the responsibility of the team and the manager to find a suitable photographer in the community to take team pictures

Rescheduling of Rain-outs / Cancellations

  • The manager will have to help organize rescheduled games. The best way to do this is:
    • Talk to CLMB about fields availability (ask for a few different days),
    • Get umpire availability.
    • Confirm a date with opposing team (and your team too)
    • email

Scheduling of exhibition games if wanted

  • You are free to play and take part in as many games as arm pitch health allows. You can follow the same instructions as re-scheduling games. Reach out to other teams in the area as you see fit, and have fun!
